woohyun knew sunggyu was going to be a wonderful person.
sunggyu has always been wonderful, and now that he's officially a person-person, like a real person with a physical tangible body and such, he's still every much as wonderful as when he was a star in the sky, maybe even more wonderful. it makes woohyun smile every time someone asks him, "how the hell did someone like you snag someone like him?" and woohyun won't tell them the truth because they won't believe him.
the both of them have fun making up stories on how they met.
woohyun's favourite (or at least the one he finds most hilarious) is the one about sunggyu being engaged to a rich girl. they were getting their photographs done at a beach and woohyun was there on that day. sunggyu and the girl he was engaged with were standing in the shallow water and smiling as the cameras snapped away. woohyun stood somewhere behind the cameraman, just watching them. their eyes met. and woohyun basically stole sunggyu from the girl. it was hilarious because it was a huge fat lie. it was hilarious because sunggyu would never leave someone for someone else even if he loved that someone else more. it was hilarious because woohyun wouldn't simply steal sunggyu away, he'd steal the girl away just to make sunggyu jealous, just because he's that kind of stupid asshole.
sunggyu's favourite story is the one about how they met at the park, star-gazing. it was by far the simplest story they made up. but sunggyu loves it because it was the closest to the truth and maybe when he told people "we met while we were star-gazing at the same park." he was imagining himself as the star and woohyun as the star-gazer.
woohyun knew it's sunggyu's favourite story of how they met because sunggyu woke up at 3.30am once, shook woohyun till he woke up and then whispered, "i wish we really did meet that way, star-gazing." and then he kissed woohyun deeper than ever before.
everyone knew the different versions to the story of they met, but no one knew the truth and no one cared to know because why would it even matter?

sunggyu works at a library. woohyun was surprised to know sunggyu can actually read. woohyun found out sunggyu can read when he picked up the newspapers and read the headlines aloud. he had given woohyun an offended look and explained that he was an all-knowing star, of course he can read. he can read any language, in fact, but he didn't want to show-off. and he gave a little smirk that woohyun kissed off.
sunggyu could be anything he wanted. he's brilliant. he can find work anywhere. but he doesn't have the certificate, diploma, phd or whatever piece of paper that he needs. it was hard enough for woohyun to help sunggyu gain an identification card, getting him in school and stuff is going to be near impossible. sunggyu didn't mind. sunggyu found a job at the neighbourhood library and he loves it.
high school girls like to come by even when they're not from the nearby school so they can talk to sunggyu or even get a look at sunggyu. it probably started out with one girl who approached sunggyu, got charmed, told her friends, who got curious and decided to come and take a look at the charming new librarian too, got charmed as well, then they told their friends.
high school boys like to come by as well. they look up to sunggyu (which is ironic, right? because sunggyu used to be a star and everyone had to literally look up at him) because he's a comic-book nerd and he makes girls titter and he has this way of smiling at people that makes them feel important and he has an air of a leader about him.
woohyun asked sunggyu if he liked his job. sunggyu had grinned so brightly it reminded woohyun of the days he had to put sunglasses on just to be in the same room as sunggyu. he said, "i love it. my co-workers let me read as much as i want. they're all pleasant old ladies, and they give me food."
"seen any interesting people who come to the library?" woohyun just wanted to ask sunggyu if he noticed his legion of teenage fans.
"well, there are quite a few youngsters who like to talk to me." sunggyu shrugged. "they're nice people. they give me food sometimes too."
woohyun got off work early once and went over to pick sunggyu up from the library. sunggyu was talking to one of the high school boys, flipping through a comic book with him, stopping at some pages and pointing out stuff. the boy listened to him in some kind of awe but he was listening and not just admiring sunggyu because he was saying stuff back and grinning. sunggyu looked like he belonged so easily, it made woohyun nervous.
woohyun didn't want to disturb sunggyu and the student so he sat on one of the sofas near the counter with three girls wearing the uniform of a school five train stops away. he took some of his work out and tried not to listen to them gossip about people he didn't know.
when he looked up, sunggyu had finished talking to the boy and was making his way over to woohyun.
"you're actually being quiet?" sunggyu teased, smile pulling at his lips and eyes.
"don't want to be kicked out by my own boyfriend, do i?"
sunggyu laughed softly and said he'd be done in a few minutes. he turned away and the girls beside woohyun were staring at him. he raised his eyebrows at them questioningly, knowing they were just three of sunggyu's many many admirers.
"you're his boyfriend?" the girl closest to him asked.
"yeah." woohyun said simply as if it was no big deal. whenever someone asked him that, he felt thrilled and proud actually.
"he's gay." the girl next to the one who spoke first pouted. "i knew he's just too perfect."
"do you know what we call him?" the first girl asked.
"what?"
everyone knows sunggyu's name because sunggyu wears a nametag after all. but the high school kids call him 'that cute librarian guy whose smile makes the stars look bad'. some girl who visited the library way too often even before sunggyu was there coined it. after a while the reference got too long and was shortened to 'that cute librarian guy' because how many cute librarian guys are there anyway?

they fought for the first time after one year. woohyun doesn't even remember how it started, he just knows it was stupid.
woohyun had shouted at him, "if you hate it here so much ,why don't you just go back to the sky, where you fucking belong in the first place?"
and sunggyu was trying so hard not to cry when his mouth dropped open and he stared hard at woohyun. he turned away and he left the apartment. and woohyun was still furious at him, still shaking like he was scared even though he was kind of relieved that he let it out. it took him ten seconds to get over himself and get scared and worried that maybe sunggyu was really never going to come back. he caught sunggyu at the elevator doors and hugged him till he stopped struggling and started crying.
woohyun told him he was so scared sunggyu would realize that being human is really shitty and Earth is shit and woohyun himself is shit. sunggyu laughed and said, "that's why i love being human, i love it here and i love you so much. everything's shit and nothing's perfect." like that made any sense. it didn't make sense to woohyun then but woohyun felt happy anyway.
and they made love for the first time that night, slow and gentle. and scared because woohyun swears when he looked into sunggyu's eyes, he could see the stars; when he touched sunggyu, he felt so hot it burned. but woohyun didn't let go, didn't look away because one moment and sunggyu could just burst away like he had watched him done before.
when woohyun woke up, 'fought with a star' and 'made love with a star' were added to the list taped to the fridge door. sunggyu just smiled at him and kissed him.

they go star-gazing. they lay out a thin blanket on the grass and lie down on it, on their backs. there are lots of people around them, doing the same thing, lying down and gazing up at the sky and murmuring words to each other like one decibel over a whisper and the universe will shatter.
"do you like it here?" woohyun asks quietly.
"i love it here." sunggyu whispers, turning his head so he's looking at woohyun.
woohyun tilts his head to look at sunggyu too, his hand reaching over to hold sunggyu's. this time, he knows he sees the stars in sunggyu's eyes. maybe they're reflecting the inky sky dotted with shining lights; maybe sunggyu really is phoning home like how E.T. does – woohyun doesn't know. woohyun knows being human is shitty, the Earth is shitty, that he's a shitty person. but then how shitty can it be if sunggyu wants to be human; if sunggyu wants to be here on Earth; if sunggyu wants to be with him?
"me too."
